NEED SOME HOLIDAY GIFT IDEAS FOR A GUITARIST THAT ARE NOT OVERDONE?

Whether you're a guitarist yourself or looking for some gift ideas for a guitarist, here are 11 gift ideas where you can't go wrong!

With the holidays around the corner, I've put together a short list of ideas that haven't been overdone. This gift guide is broken out in 3 parts:
    1. Music gear
    2. Content creation
    3. Miscellaneous
Even if you're musician but not a guitarist, you can still get some good inspo for your own set up!

I'm Nicole, a guitarist who has built up a following online through playing music covers. So I'm sharing a few ideas that I have found helpful in playing guitar and also growing online as a musician. I've also thrown in a few miscellaneous ideas too and linked some of the things I use myself if you want to check out exactly what I'm using.

MUSIC GEAR

Of course, this wouldn't be a gift guide for guitarists without some of the basics. But I wanted to make this fun and useful, so here are some things a guitarist will always need:

  • Guitar Strings: Strings are always getting replaced (or in my case, not nearly enough 😅). Similar to picks, a guitarist will always appreciate having extra strings around. I personally use a few different Ernie Ball strings (the super slinky are my favorite).
  • Lock Straps: Ever want to move around, but afraid of the guitar slipping through the strap? It's made me nervous, so I got some lock straps. I've tried some cheap ones in the past for something, but the RokLok strap locks are super secure easy to interchange on any guitar.
  • Drop Pedal: After trying out the DigiTech Drop Pedal, it's been so easy to change my guitar tuning! This is now my most used pedal and I recommend it to anyone if they complain about having to change tuning on their guitar.
  • Digital Plug-ins: I get asked what guitar tones I use alllll the time, and most of the time I'm using digital guitar tones, probably from STL Tones ToneHub. My personal favorite is the Joey Bradford expansion pack. Plug-ins can also be great for experimenting with tons of different sounds without having to deal with bulky physical gear.
  • Audio Interface: Along with the digital tones, interfaces are a great way to record music. I love using the Scarlett solo, but also started with a Behringer interface for a more affordable option.

CONTENT CREATION

If you want to start taking content creation more seriously as a musician, you'll want to invest in some basics.

As someone who makes a a bunch of music content, some of the things that make the biggest difference are NOT the nicest camera. It's mostly about lighting and making content as easy for you to create as possible. It's also about making the space feel inspiring to you, so have fun with it!

  • Tripod: There are so many options that you can use with your phone. I like using a selfie stick tripod to use my phone's back camera, and even come with a ring light if you need some extra lighting without investing in more professional gear.
  • Colorful lights: LED strips or colorful studio lighting to make your music content pop!
  • Online Learning: Creating good-looking content is just part of being a music content creator. Programs such as Grow Your Music Fanbase (how to build an online audience from the ground up) or Rockstar N.R.G. (3 week posting challenge to increase Instagram engagement) are two resources I put together that teach everything I know about how to build up a successful music Instagram!
